Flying Sword guide — ten tiers, blessing, stars and the tier 8–10 skills

The Flying Sword is the sword your Sect Master rides through town and into battle. It is one of the biggest team-wide stat sources in Tales of Ascension: every tier adds HP, ATK, DEF and Speed to all six heroes in your formation, not just the Sect Master. It opens at Qi Refining Layer 3, and every account starts with the Iron Flying Sword for free.

Tiers and stats

The table shows the stats at star 0 of each tier. The Flying Sword panel shows the same ladder in game.

TierSwordHPATK / DEFSpeed
1Iron Flying Sword+5%+4%+5
2Star Steel Sword+9%+7%+7
3Ancient Bronze Sword+13%+10%+10
4Silver Sword+18%+13%+13
5Golden Sword+23%+17%+16
6Jade Sword+28%+21%+20
7Spirit Star Sword+34%+25%+24
8Phoenix Flame Sword+40%+30%+35
9Dragonmark Sword+47%+36%+50
10Immortal-Slaying Sword+55%+42%+60

On top of this, the sword's bonus grows with your realm: each realm step adds another 5% of the sword's base bonus, so +42% ATK is worth about +63% ten realm steps later.

Blessing and stars

Open the Flying Sword panel and tap Bless. Each blessing costs a few pills (more at higher tiers — the panel shows the current price) and adds 1 to 5 bond points. The bar is split into 10 stars. Every star adds a tenth of the stat difference between your tier and the next, so the sword gets stronger with almost every few blessings, not only at a tier-up.

When the bar is full, the sword evolves into the next tier and the points reset. There is no random early tier-up: the bar always has to fill.

Tip: the beginner guide task Equip a Flying Sword gives 100 Bone-Forging Pills, enough to reach tier 3 on day one.

Tier 8–10 battle skills

From tier 8, the sword also gives your Sect Master a skill in battle:

Once you have reached tier 9 or 10, you can choose which of your unlocked skills to use. A Fire team may still prefer the Phoenix Flame skill.

Sword skins

The Skin option lets your Sect Master ride an earlier sword's look in town and battle. It is cosmetic only: your stats always come from your highest tier.

Where Bone-Forging Pills come from

A steady player reaches the high tiers over months, not days. The sword is a long-term goal that pays off at every star along the way.

Flying Sword or Mount?

They are separate systems and you use both. The Flying Sword is the Sect Master's sword with team-wide stats. Mounts are beasts you tame with their own levels and battle skills. See the Mounts guide.

FAQ

Does the Flying Sword buff only my Sect Master?

No. Its HP, ATK, DEF and Speed apply to every hero in your formation. Only the tier 8–10 skill is tied to the Sect Master.

Can a blessing fail?

A blessing always adds 1–5 points. The tier only changes when the bar is full.

Do I lose my skill choice when I tier up?

No. You can set which unlocked tier 8–10 skill to use at any time in the Flying Sword panel.

When does the Flying Sword unlock?

At Qi Refining Layer 3, a few campaign stages in.
