Every disciple you summon can keep growing for a very long time. Souls recruit them, stars make them stronger and open their skills, and Rebirth takes a 20-star disciple further still. This guide covers the whole path, and what to do with souls once a disciple has nothing left to gain.
At a glance
- Each disciple has their own souls. Enough souls recruit them, and more souls raise their stars.
- 20 stars per disciple. Every star adds +4.5% to all their stats.
- Skills open with stars: Passive I at 5★, Passive II at 10★ and the active skill at 15★.
- Some skills also get Awakening upgrades at set star counts.
- At 20★, Rebirth (up to 5/5) costs the disciple's own souls plus Samsara Stones.
- A fully maxed disciple can Disperse spare souls into Souls for the Soul Pavilion.
Recruiting with souls
A summon gives either a whole disciple or souls for one. Souls for a disciple you do not own yet build up until you can recruit them:
| Grade | Souls to recruit |
|---|---|
| S | 30 |
| A | 20 |
| B | 15 |
| C | 10 |
Rates, pity and event banners are in the summon guide.
Stars
Open a disciple and tap Star Up to spend their souls on the next star. The panel always shows the cost of the next star. Costs step up every five stars, and lower-grade disciples need more souls per star than Grade S, because their souls drop far more often.
What a star gives you:
- +4.5% to every stat of that disciple, so a 20★ disciple has nearly double the stats of a fresh one.
- Skills. Every disciple fights with a basic attack and an ultimate from 0★. Passive I opens at 5★, Passive II at 10★ and the second active skill at 15★. Stars 16–20 then power up a full kit.
- Awakening. Some skills have Awakening steps at set star counts that raise the skill's own numbers. The skill sheet lists them, greyed out until you reach them.
Tip: a 5★ or 10★ disciple often gains more from the next passive than the stats suggest. Check what opens before you spread souls around.
Rebirth
At 20 stars, a disciple can Rebirth, up to 5 times. Each Rebirth costs:
- the disciple's own souls (Grade S needs the fewest, Grade C the most), and
- Samsara Stones, shared by your whole roster.
What each Rebirth gives:
- Rebirth 1–3: +10% base aptitude each. Aptitude drives every stat the disciple has, so this is a big step.
- Rebirth 4–5: +4.5% stats each, the same as one more star.
The Rebirth panel shows the cost and gain of the next step. Samsara Stones drop from Spirit Realm bosses and deep Secret Realm floors, and the Black Market sells a couple each week. Stones are the shared limit and souls are each disciple's own limit, so use your stones on the disciples you actually field.
The Sect Master
Your Sect Master has stars and Rebirth too, but pays in Heavenly Scripture Fragments instead of souls. Fragments come from weekly quests, the Black Market and its Daily tab. Sect Master Rebirth also costs Samsara Stones and gives +12% aptitude for steps 1–3, a little more than a disciple.
Disperse
Once a disciple is at 20 stars and Rebirth 5/5, any further souls they get have no use. Disperse turns them into Souls of the same grade, one for one, at the Soul Pavilion. From there you can spend them on any other disciple of that grade. Nothing you summon is wasted.
FAQ
Should I star up many disciples or one?
Push your carry and your tank first. Each new passive at 5★ and 10★ is a jump, so getting key disciples there beats spreading souls evenly.
Do lower-grade disciples ever catch up?
Their stars cost more souls, but their souls come much more often. A well-starred Grade B or C disciple with the right element and skills can hold a slot for a long time.
Does Rebirth reset stars?
No. The disciple stays at 20 stars and keeps every skill.
